Learning Whose Country You Are On

No matter where we are in this big and beautiful country of ours, we are always on Aboriginal land... land which has been cared for and protected by Aboriginal people for many tens of thousands of years. This is why I think it is so important for us to always make the effort to learn just whose country we are on in our own hometown or where we live. 

I currently live at Mansfield, Victoria, in the beautiful High Country. The Summers are gorgeous and the Winters are COLD! This is Taungurang country. The Taungurang people occupy much of central Victoria, and have a rich and vibrant culture and history with this land that I now live on.

Where do you live? Do you know which Aboriginal group belongs to the land where you call home? Why not get in touch with your local Aboriginal Corporation or Land Council and find out more about the history and culture of the local Aboriginal people that belong to your area.
