New Year, New Years Resolutions!
2020 is here! I am super excited for the New Year and for New Years resolutions! The start of the new school year is the perfect time to refresh your perspectives on how you are including Indigenous Australia into your learning environment! I am passionate about assisting educators to bring Indigenous thinking, learnings, history and culture into their educational space, particularly in the early childhood space. It’s about making it accessible to all children, to spark their interest in the First Nations culture of Australia, and to help them to grow into empathetic, considerate and respectful individuals. Here are a few New Years resolutions you might want to try!
Bring Indigenous stories into your classroom on a regular (e.g. weekly) basis (as opposed to once or twice a year at NAIDOC or Reconciliation Week).
Explore developing a Reconciliation Action Plan for your learning centre.
Connect with your local Indigenous groups and invite them to your centre to share their knowledge with your children.
Learn about the local Indigenous language of the Country you are on. Share it regularly with your children.
#BuyIndigenous - support local Indigenous suppliers and businesses.
Expand your own knowledge about Indigenous Australia - check out new websites and new books relating to Indigenous Australia.
Happy New Year to you all from Riley Callie Resources!
