First Nations STEM in the Classroom

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. The 2025 school theme is Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language.

This theme invites students and teachers across Australia to delve into the mysteries of the Universe by exploring the fundamental languages of nature, including mathematics and the groundbreaking field of quantum science. Wow, right!

You might be thinking, where can we jump into this theme through a First Nations STEM lens? There are more opportunities than you might think!

This year we are excited to explore this theme with Aboriginal educator and STEM expert, Belinda Huntriss.

Join us for an engaging and dynamic online workshop that introduces you to how you can integrate Aboriginal perspectives into STEM in your early years or primary school classroom this National Science Week, and indeed, all year round!

This unique one hour online session will give you the groundwork you need to feel confident in engaging in Indigenous knowledge systems that date back 60,000 plus years, and show you how easy it can be to bring this into your classroom.

We will also be joined by a non-Indigenous teacher who works in the space of STEM and hear from her about her experiences of how she engages in this space with her students, as she shares with us some classroom activity examples of what’s worked well for her.
